DES 016-001 P2: Typeface Poster: Clarendon

DES 016-001 Project 2: Typeface Poster
This project was done as an introduction to typography and as a way to research a specific typeface in detail, in order to create a poster that effectively highlights the era, creator, and uses of that particular typeface.

The font I chose was Clarendon, designed by Robert Besley at London's Fann Street Foundry in 1845. A widely popular typeface during the latter half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, Clarendon signified the turn of an era in England. However, when the typeface spread to the United States, the connotation of Clarendon shifted from modern future to a more old timey, Western aesthetic. As a result, the typeface was famous for its use in Western-style wanted posters, which was the inspiration for my design.
